Disney , Infoseek tout GO Network in TV ads

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 24 (Reuters) - GO Network, the No. 5 Internet portal started by Infoseek Corp. and Walt Disney Co early this year, on Monday said it would launch a nine-week television ad campaign emphasizing the utility of Web-based information in everyday life.

The seven different commercials, to be aired in pairs, hit the TV airwaves Monday. The ads will be broadcast during some of ABC Television's most popular programs, including the final episode of "Home Improvement" scheduled for Tuesday, "Dharma & Greg" and "The Practice," an Infoseek spokesman said.

Infoseek is 43-percent owned by Disney, which owns 100 percent of ABC
Television.

The campaign is part of a $165 million promotional agreement between Disney and Infoseek under which Infoseek agreed to spend that amount, while Disney agreed to provide at least that much in promotion for their GO Network venture, the spokesman said.

He declined to say how much the ad campaign is worth, nor would he say
specifically what portion of the $165 million has been spent so far under the five-year agreement made last June.

The campaign, with the tagline "Before You Go Here, Go Here" will
consistently pair two of the seven 15-second spots, spotlighting the useful content of the Internet, he said, as opposed to earlier portal campaigns emphasizing reach across the World Wide Web, or e-mail availability.

The theme of each spot is solving a consumer-oriented problem, such as a purchasing a car, by gathering online information.

According to Merrill Lynch, GO Network ranks fifth in home-and-work based Web reach, with an estimated 35.1 percent of individual on the Internet last month visiting the site.

I saw TARZAN a couple of months ago and it is the best animated film I've seen since THE LION KING. I'm estimating that it should gross at least 75% of THE LION KING -- bringing the North American gross in at $225 million.

The film's release date is June 18th.
