Connection charges are by the minute. BT is making record profits because of the rise in internet related calls. Competitors are making moves to offer internet connection by satellite bundled with TV channels.

I have tried AOL about 7 times - each time I have cancelled because of poor service. Today I received another "free tral" offer through the mail i.e. free 500 hours of use, with a new CD, and the new reduced price of $15 per month. I loaded it, noted the improved graphics, but could not connect because it recognised my credit card number from when I last had an account - it insisted I telephone them. After 15 mins on hold I gave up coming to the conclusion that AOL has not improved.

BTW. MSN and AOL and most of the big tech companies have their call centres located in the Republic of Ireland - so one of the perks is to have all your enquiries dealt toll-free by very charming Irish voices trained in a customer-friendly US style. The big difference is that you get to talk to one at MSN very quickly and, as I have said, with great difficulty, if at all with AOL.
