Gold soft late in Europe

<< Gold dipped in range above $272.50 support during late European trade on Friday, ignoring remarks by German and U.S. financial officials saying there was no prospect of sales from their countries' reserves.

London gold fixed at $273.30 a troy ounce in the afternoon versus the morning's $274.85, its fall reversing Europe's early firmness as U.S. trade began.

''It's just dealers playing around. There's not a great deal of business going through. One of the houses was a buyer this morning and turned into a seller this afternoon,'' said one London dealer who saw a narrow bullion range for days to come... cont'd ... >>
