Compaq<CPQ.N>, Fujian <600734.SS> revamp venture

SHANGHAI, May 21 (Reuters) - China's Fujian Star Group Co
<600734.SS> said on Friday a joint venture with Compaq Computer
Corp <CPQ.N> has been reorganised to focus on electronic
commerce.
The joint venture, which has registered capital of 15
million yuan ($1.8 million), is 51 percent controlled by
Compaq, which acquired the stake when it bought Digital
Equipment last year.
The remaining 49 percent is held by Shanghai-listed Fujian
Star, a maker of computer hardware and software.
The venture, based in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province,
had previously focused on personal computers.
The company would provide software services to take
advantage of the growing use of the Internet in China, a Fujian
Star official said without giving further details.
