Good to know that we can find common ground. I do agree that hedge funds and other riskier investments (I have made a few rather nice options trades myself, for example) may provide a higher return simply because of the additional risk taken (I know that you disagree about the risk, but I hope that we would be able to agree to disagree) but that additional risk makes them unsuitable for retirement accounts.

But, that doesn't hold for the vast mutual fund families that cater to 401k investors. Such managers, I say, need to get a real job instead of working harder to underperform on my already hard-earned investments.
