China Telecom Services Market and the WTO Talks to Be
Focused at China Telecom 2000 Conference in Washington
DC on June 2-3, 1999
BUSINESS WIRE

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May
21, 1999--Telecom officials and executives from
China and several other countries will gather and
speak at the [ China Telecom ] 2000 -
Conference on Exploring Business Opportunities
in the Kingdom of Change. The conference is
organized by Information Gatekeepers and will be held at the Swissotel the
Watergate in Washington DC from June 2-3, 1999. The aim of the
conference is to provide an opportunity for foreign telecommunications
companies to learn about the fastest-growing dynamic Chinese telecom
markets and to explore business opportunities.

The conference will cover a wide array of topics related to the telecom
market in China. Key areas of discussion include new telecom policy and
regulations, telecom services market and the WTO, telecom investment
financing models, IP phone and fax regulations, the Internet, fiber optics and
optical networking, switching, wireless, mobile satellite, VSAT, and other
technologies.

One of the major areas of focus at the conference will be the telecom
services market and the WTO negotiations. "Despite a long history of
protecting its telecom services market, China 's senior Leadership has
endorsed fundamental policy reform. Private and direct foreign participation
in telecommunications services has been approved as part of broad
macro-economic restructuring - and will likely go forward even if China's bid
for entry into WTO stalls. After years of battling prevailing policy, foreign
investors may finally have cause for legitimate hope," said Ken Zita, principal
of Network Dynamics Associates, a telecom consulting firm based in New
York.

Speakers include telecom officials and executives from the following
organizations: the Ministry of Information Industry, Shanghai PTA, Beijing
University of Post and Telecommunications, Yangtze Optical Fibre and
Cable Company, Great Dragon Telecom, Lucent Technologies, Nortel
Networks, Qualcomm, [ Motorola ] , the Chinese Embassy, [ Coudert
Brothers ] , BellSouth, Andersen Consulting, INTELSAT, Paul Weiss, the
World Bank, the ITU, U.S. Commerce Department, Telecommunications
Industry Association, NeTrue Communications, Cwill Telecommunications,
Network Dynamics, Revenue Growth International and others.
