Is English your second language? You are guaranteed the TIPS shares if you bought before or on the 17th and held on the DOR the 20th as long as you hold through the Ex-Date. That is what that PR says. By saying that you are guaranteed shares if you are a shareholder on record on May 20, 1999, they are only stating the Ex-Date would be no earlier than May 20th, 1999. If the Ex-date is earlier than May 20th, then you may have a lawsuit. If it is later, then they did not lie. You have to read the whole PR, not just what you want to read.
