OT:

If you connect to the internet via your company's lan, proxy, and/or firewall, you might not be able to use IRC (Internet Relay Chat). The firewall/proxy may not be set up to allow IRC protocol and applications connection.

In a nutshell, IRC is an internet protocol that provides a means of online, realtime chat via the internet network. You'll need an IRC client application (such as mIRC). It will need to be setup and configured (particularly if you are behind a firewall via a lan proxy server).

There is a lot of culture, jargon, and detailed aspects to IRC that I am not an expert in (actually, a novice really). But it does have a lot of potential for good use. One problem with IRC is that the "junk" far outweighs any good stuff. (signal to noise ratio, as I call it)

You can download any number of IRC client applications from sites like cws.internet.com

I created the #RandeIsHome channel, but I don't know if it can be "seen" universally by others. I may be missing something. If anyone wants to experiment - please try connecting to this channel. As well, anyone more versed on IRC than I, please comment and correct any mistakes I've made here or provide further information that may aid us on this thread.

(With Rande's approval of course.)

Regards,
KevinT
