Bores attack the stalk and kill the plant. Even if they don't kill it the weakened will fall before harvest making it harder to combine.

Root worms eat the roots, not good. Crop rotation tended to keep them under control. Corn, beans, corn, beans every other year in a field. Now the moths have changed their behavior and lay their eggs in bean fields because that's where the corn will be when the eggs hatch. With minimum tillage for soil conservation the eggs survive the winter.

No dripping hot butter gene yet but there are several new varieties that are sweeter and don't turn starchy as quick. I know where a test plot is for new varieties so with some midnight grocery shopping I get to try them.
