Kevin - Re: "Meantime, the K6-III will peak at 3100 units in Q3 and drop to 2750 in Q4. Overall, Intel's crystal balls reckon AMD will ship 3400 parts in Q3 and 3250 in Q4.

Chipzilla predicts it will manage 26,200 units in Q3 and 28,100 in Q4, an estimated 85 per cent and 86 per cent of the total market respectively. "

Are some of these numbers missing a few ZEROS ?

They seem to be OFF by a factor of 1,000 !

Re: <Interesting Register article.

Kevin>

If we assume that the last two paragraphs should read "K units" then the surprising thing is that Intel seems to assume that K62 is disappearing. More likely the "anonymous OEM" only copied down K63 and K7 units during the Intel briefing and left off K62. So the Register reports that AMD will ship only "3400[K] parts in Q3 and 3250[K]in Q4." Throw in 2MU K62 and it seems like a reasonable guess. I would expect K62 to be higher than K63 however. Of course, this is only what Intel is telling OEMs, not what Intel really believes.

AMD to ship 500,000 K7s in Q4, says Intel

Chipzilla keeps a wary eye on the competition --or 'imitators' as it so charmingly calls them
-– and posts predictions of the kind of shipping volumes expected.

One anonymous OEM very kindly shared Old Mother Intel's thoughts on what AMD's K7
would achieve with The Register.

Intel reckons the K7 will hit 100,000 units in the third quarter and a whopping 500,000 in Q4.

Meantime, the K6-III will peak at 3100 units in Q3 and drop to 2750 in Q4. Overall, Intel's
crystal balls reckon AMD will ship 3400 parts in Q3 and 3250 in Q4.

Chipzilla predicts it will manage 26,200 units in Q3 and 28,100 in Q4, an estimated 85 per
cent and 86 per cent of the total market respectively. ®
