GV, come on, that article is over a year old. Also, New software applications will not demand the levels of computational power that will compel users to buy into the next wave of higher pricing for Intel's successor to the x86, code-name Merced, Peck said. The whole article is about desktop, then he brings in Merced, which is Intel's first 64 bit chip, and is intended for medium to high performance servers. He says it won't sell for lack of new software applications. Well, it won't sell waiting for new desktop software, but it will for Unix/Win2000/Solaris/Linux web, etc. based applications. Look at the article on server farms I posted earlier. He's comparing apples and oranges. No wonder I haven't seen Peck-don't make me add two more syllables to his name-lately. Has he disappeared? GV, anybody, please try again and give us something more recent on Merced. Tony
