True Dog - I think I'm agreeing.

It's ironic that the "European"/White "civilization" has done so much (and it has), but that on the surface of it all they never seem to get the fundamental point that there are other people on the face of the earth who have something substantial to contribute. My personal opinion is that Chief Joseph is one of the great wise men and great heroes of not just American history, but of world history. It's a darned shame that the white guys never got the point of what he was saying (that in itself is a misinterpretation - a lot did get the point).

With all the atrocities that have come up in European history (one could waste a lot of time making an incomplete list), there have also been a lot of very good things. If one focuses on the atrocities, I would call that a misinterpretation. If the misinterpretation has a point - such as to emphasize some great thing, then it's not so bad (and maybe even a little fun). I never mind making a misinterpretation of human history.

For sure tongue in cheek (?): Given the extremes of the behaviors of the European "explorers," it would be safe to draw the conclusion that the Europeans have a very schizophrenic culture. It's no wonder we have so many psychiatrists around.

As for the Makah's going after a whale, I'm not going to waste any time giving it a second thought. It's ok by me.
