(OT: Y2K) Charles, additionally, ML has done a large corp IT survey and results show that on average, nobody is cutting IT spending (I wish I had a link to the report). I think a market decline will stem from FUD and panic. Although I know Y2K will not cause catastrophic technical failures, many people will sell out, resulting in a self fulfilling prophecy, so do I want to be left holding the bag, do you? It really does not matter if this run is warranted or not, we see "unwarranted" stock (and Market) actions daily. And you know that MM's and Specialists are just going to fuel the fire, and make big $$ in the resulting inferno.
There will be a Y2K panic, and everyone will want to be in cash before it happens (me, for bargains), so when will it happen? Think of all the "uneducated" MF investors that sell, causing redemptions, ouch. I just hope they are the ones who plan on selling in December, long after I have...
I just cringe when I think of how CNBC will respond to the whole mess.

Here's to a profitable disaster!

Hi Charent-...Sun To Serve Up Flapjack Server (05/21/99, 8:08 p.m. ET)
By Amber Howle , Computer Reseller News

Sun Microsystems soon is expected to unveil a server line targeting ISPs and other service providers.

Code-named Flapjack, the small footprint, stackable server appears as flat as a notebook computer.

Sun CEO Scott McNealy showed off the server to an audience at the company's ServiceProvider.com launch earlier this month and said Sun would unveil details soon.

Pulling a black sheet away from a stack of Flapjacks, McNealy said, "This is what your data center will look like in the very, very near future."

He said that since footprint and space "really matters to [ISPs and other service providers], Flapjack will be their server of choice."

Spokespeople at Sun, in Palo Alto, declined to comment on the details of Flapjack and exactly when it will be released.

Flapjack fits into Sun's ServiceProvider.com initiative, which it launched to tackle what the company sees as a changing Internet economy.

Key to the initiative is Sun's plan to compensate its sales force to spur sales and stimulate revenue for service providers.

While the company says its competitors focus on the ISP market, its own initiative addresses the entire service provider community -- which includes systems integrators, resellers,ISVs, and Web developers -- to enable Web-based service delivery.

Sun said it is trying to position itself as the computing infrastructure that service providers will require -- a so-called provider to service providers.

The new program consists of more than 20 new products, business practices, and services.

I like the last sentence: "...The new program consists of more than 20 new products, business practices, and services...."....New revenue streams (ie services) and new products (ie. higher revenues).

From Upside.com....Aiming for the Sun By Sam Williams (May 19, 1999)
Page -1- (http://www.upside.com/texis/mvm/open_season?id=3741c2f80)

From the article:"...Last week, when Sun made the unexpected announcement that its new Solaris boxes would be Linux-compatible, it was all you could do to block out the growing roar.

Page -2- (http://www.upside.com/texis/mvm/open_season?id=3741f55a0)

From the article: "...Ockman says the company's primary goal, aside from flying below the corporate radar of both Dell Computer and Sun Microsystems for the next six to 12 months, is to foster a business model that combines each of those companies' best attributes: He's shooting for Dell's efficient scalability and Sun's undisputed technical expertise, while at the same time stripping margins to the bone...."

It will be interesting to see how SUNW's management responds in both products and services...Will the customer pay the higher margins for SUNW's brand name, quality of service and upgrade path. My answer is YES!
