Bukun, No need to tell me about NT's current failings. After all, my workplace has standardized on it. Rented capacity makes sense; I've never understood why each company needs an IT fief. The tech is here but, aside from web serving, adoption is low. Aside from inertia, reliability seems an issue; shall we start a little business? <g> I expect the future norm to be farms of cheap boxes, rather than "huge server boxes" -- it seems the cheapest way to get reliable, scalable service. Huge boxes should exist only where necessary, e.g. for those 'tier 1' DBs you note. Cheap farms could run W2K. Intermediation should pressure MSFT, though, since providers are likely to threaten alternatives to cut costs or bolster performance. The end result should be win-win: either MSFT quality starts to match the price, or vice-versa. Ah, speculation. Wanna bet we're both wrong? -mb
