Release of mobile K6-III coming this Monday:

zdnet.com

The K6-III's Business Winstone 99 performance should be very attractive for the business laptop market. Not only that, but that kind of performance on office applications is doubly necessary because of the lower clock speeds of mobile processors. And most laptops that I see are used for such office apps; hardly any are bought for multimedia and 3D gaming, except those which allow you to watch Austin Powers on DVD. ;-)

However, I wonder if the mobile version of the K6-III has its voltage jacked up just like the desktop version. If so, I guess it's up to the OEMs to decide whether that's a negative factor in choosing the mobile K6-III for their laptops.

Tenchusatsu Re: <The money won't start flowing 'till we get the 8, 16, 32, and 64 SMP designs in production.>

Looks like most missed my point which was that real volumes won't be available 'till at least November '99.

The volume for SMP machines is low, but the bucks are there(big margins for Mfgrs. like Cpq, HWP), and the prestige is there, and in this market prestige sells better than Mhz.

The Multi-cpu designs will provide major validity to the single cpu chipset designs(IMVHO), and will front run the acceptance of K7 into the business market.

Anyhow, one man's opinion on the state of AMD finances through the end of this year.
