Ron and Thread,

I have been unable to get into the Steve's Digicams site, but I would ask whether you actually see the SanDisk logo or another visual cue about the company? I trust that there is.

I pulled apart the box of information that came with my Epson PhotoPC 600 and I was very disappointed. The user's manual states...

"CompactFlash memory cards and adapters should be available where you bought your PhotoPC 600 camera. EPSON recommends ATA-compatible CompactFlash cards manufactured by SanDisk or Simple Technology. For information, call (800) 4-SIMPLE."

Inside the box there is a couple of flyers. Tiffen gives away a free lens adapter made out of plastic that costs about 3 cents. Along with it is a small instruction manual and directions to their 800 number for ordering. A nice laminated, color brochure from Epson has about a dozen pages dedicated to Tiffen accessories, some promotions for additional editing software and e-mail applications and a color photo of a woman's hand inserting a Simple Technology CF card into the PhotoPC 600 camera. The last page has an ordering card for each of the products advertised. But wait, there is also a separate one page color leaflet from Simple which advertises the 4 to 16 MB cards. There are several photos of the card along side Epson's camera, a price list (4 MB card for $99.00 and a 16 MB card for $199.00), and a special offer for a free PCMCIA adapter. Finally, a small 3 x 5 card is enclosed advertising a free 4 MB CF card (no brand name mentioned) if you purchase an EPSON Stylus Color printer by May 31, 1998 in addition to your EPSON camera.

The camera itself came with no CF card, just the advertising. It is clear that Simple Technology had the upper hand here with SanDisk being mentioned only once inside the 50 page user's guide and no name brand recognition. No visual cues.

This is the type of thing that has to stop. If any of you bought a Kodak or Casio or Nikon digital camera please take a look inside the box at the literature and advertising and post what you find.
