I'm beginning to think it's both. :)

The the "Gamblers" song was right.

"Ya gotta know when to hold em,
and know when to fold em!"

I find it really ironic that you think getting out is what made you money, while Frank and I think your ability to know when to get in is what made you money.

Hey, I know how to lose money! I started out in "92 using "Value line", got on line and found "Motley Fool", and bought "The Gorilla Game". I then subscribed to Silicon Investor in June of '98. (God, I can't believe it was only a year ago!) ." I bought and sold these "turkeys."

1995
Staples-- bought for $4285 3/95, sold for $3520 5/95

Intuit--Bought for $3825 11/95, sold for $1681 8/96
(ouch! I learned that a good product can be made by a bad company.)

Credence--bought for $5912, 10/95, sold for $2120, 9/96 (ouch!).
1996
Andrew--bought for $6,000, 11/96, sold for $4745, 7/97

1997
3Com--bought for $3300, 1/97 sold for $2400 9/97

SEG--bought for $4966 1/97, sold for $3378, 6/97

Applied Magnetics--bought for $5255, 1/97, sold for $3388, 9/97, (ouch!)

1998
CATP--bought for $12970, 3/98, sold for 11,500 6/98

Gart-- bought for $8100 3/98 sold for $6500 5/98

Manuguistics-- Bought for $5480 4/98 sold for $2307 6/98
(this loss pissed me off at myself)

NETA--bought for $14,172, 3/98 sold for $12,555 6/98

Seibel--bought for $8043 4/98 sold for $6895 6/98
(yeah, Mike, I know I should have held.)

Symatec--bought for $14,400,3/98 sold for $12,400 6/98

Vantive--bought for $6850 4/98, sold for $4867 6/98

SUMMARY
I bought 14 stocks for $103,558
I sold them for $78,256
Average purchase $7397
Average sale $5589
Average loss $1807
Average % loss 24%

What I was doing early, was buying "shiny Pebbles" from "Value Line" , and later, buying a "Basket" from the "Gorilla Game".

But, the key was, I started out with small purchases, and I was able to "pull the plug!"
