Hi Darren, I don't find any issued patents for the company, and only 1 for a Michael Lynch (of Northern Telecom--same person???). In the article below, the connection to Upland properties is described. So it sounds like the repeater function is the heart of the claim for VDMA (still don't get the connection to the acronym). Call me crazy, but without extremely widespread use--even if the claims are true--the repeater function isn't effective. Plus it would seem to rely on users burning their battery life for the sake of preserving continuity in the network. Why??? Why when there are existing full coverage systems without such a constraint would a user choose this system? Your connection may be at the mercy of one person tossing their phone in the toolbox in the back of their pickup. The bigger question in my mind is why does a thread with 1400 posts exist when there is no tangible, substantive information of any kind related to VDMA<G>. OTOH, if VDMA isn't central to the future growth of the company, this may not be an issue. ------------------------------------- Here's the article from about a year ago: OTC:BB acquires OTC:BB<ggg> ------------------------------------- <<Upland Properties, Inc.: Agreement to Acquire World Wide Wireless, Inc. Business Wire, May 11, 1998 p5110389 Full Text VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1998-- Upland Properties, Inc. The Company has a fully operational infrastructure in place including a transmission facility atop Mt. Diablo in San Francisco's East Bay. The Company is poised, with the completion of this transaction, to launch a aggressive sales and marketing campaign directed towards signing up customers who require ultra high-speed download capability of data-intensive, graphic, audio and video files. The high-speed wireless modems are manufactured by Hybrid Networks, Inc.(HYBR), of Cupertino, CA and the routers are purchased from Cisco Systems of Oakland, CA. The Micronet Division is pioneering what it believes will be the "next generation" cellular technology which builds upon the CDMA/PCS mobile phone standard which is rapidly becoming the International standard of choice. Patents are pending for the microprocessor chip set at the center of this technology. A full scale production prototype is anticipated by calendar year end. {That'd be Dec '98} CONTACT: Upland Properties, Inc. Douglas P. Haffer, 415/956-9190 604/664-0498 (FAX) >> dh
