Hello Douglas,

As you have justly noted in your post, NATO doesn't wants to get bugged down in Balkans. The first world war instigated by Serbs in Bosnia. By the end of the war, the Austro-Hungerian Emperor, The German Kaiser, and the Tsar of Russia were all gone!!

Russians hope for the Americans to get bugged down in Serbia, they
love to see Americans can get their nose bloodied. NATO knows that!
General Clark has been ordered by the President Clinton to fight a "zero casualty war", and Milosovic knows that. He will not give an inch because he knows Americans are not willing to suffer casualty, while he is. In Italian we say "you can't have a drunk wife and a full bottle!" If NATO wants to fight a war to win, then it maybe prepared
to pay. Unlike the Second World War, where one command existed and we fought for unconditional surrender, here not only we have no plitical will to win. General Clarks decisions are effected by the Greens, Communists, and Socialists ruling the EC country.

Allow me to provide you with a shamfull example, that you may not have read in the press, becasue NATO is to ashamed to admit. In early March, NATO radars spot 5 Serbian Mig Jets that have entered into the Internatinal
air-space over the Adriatic, heading north. The intended target was Aviano Airbase. NATO gives ordered to an italian Airbse in Pescara to
stop the Serbs planes before they reach the 50 miles radius of the Itlain cost. 10 minutes later, the italian planes were sitting on the
runways. The pilots were told not to take-off in the last minute because the communist members of Itlalain Government had told the Pirme Minister that they should first discuss. At this point
US planes had to be re-routed to intercept the Serbian planes.

I don't think in case of a land war, US can look to active help from
16 NATO members. Only UK is ready to participate with men and matterials. Germans, Italians, Greeks, Dutch, Belgiums, and other "hang arround the camps!" are not going to help. Now, US has to make
a decsion to fight this war alone, or else, pull out of NATO.
