The rose bushes are full of buds, but the only ones close to opening are the wine-colored, English roses. I have three. This is their fourth year. I've kept them because I like their color. It matches barberry and Clematis along the side. I think this will be their last season. I began spraying in March. Still, the powedery mildew ruins the buds. They look horrible. I've had to strip most of leaves to control mildew.

The tag on the roses said they were L.D. Braithwaite. BUTT they are not. They are called, "Othello."

It was in the 70s Saturday. Today, temperature should hit the 80s so I'll snip a few buds. I don't believe they will open because of mildew.

Good thing we have the net now. Often, the rose's color is more realistic than the colors on the cards at nursery. So I may find a color that is similar.

I've got a fourth one that is also labeled L.D. Braithwaite, but again it was mislabeled. I think I will have to get rid of that one as well.
It has mildew problems and it will not bloom, easily, even though it I fertlize and water.

After my experience with these roses, I switched growers. Now, I order my roses from East Coast.

The above are David Austen's English Roses. The grower was Jackson Perkins. I bought one other Jackson Perkins rose and I didn't like it either. Again, it suffered from mildew and overall, it was not a healthy rose.

I bought these roses at local well-known nurseries.

The roses that I order from East Coast ARE NOT Jakcson Perkins roses. I've been happier. They are healthy and easier to look after. If there is a problem, I call the nursery in East & they put another one in the mail.
