Well if you remember that K6 bug, for a while there AMD was selling processors that wouldn't boot.

It is quite remarkable how Intel boots processors which haven't taped out yet.

I left out the booted on the simulator part. Got me. Does AMD simulate their processors? I don't remember seeing any milestones released to that effect. Quote at the lunch the other day 'National's R&D roadmap is Intel's product catalog.' What about AMD?

How do you know Merced hasn't taped out yet?

It is no more remarkable than AMD shipping K6-2's that fail to boot completely - when installed in Gateway systems.
