Taxman: MSFT has the one great asset that Coolidge said went beyond genius in the business milieu. In a word they are persistent they never give up and they keep trying until they get it right. Windows is a great example, NT will be the next. Their applications have shown measurable improvement with each new release. They did the same with browsers and it appears from the statistics that their MSN numbers are improving markedly. They also have a great financial ethic as well. Everyone thinks they have really depleted their liquidity but not so; much of their spending has been in the shares of other companies which on the balance sheet comes under the heading of cash or marketable securities. Yes the securities are a little less liquid and somewhat riskier than cash but the rate of return and leverage in the marketplace was well worth the risk. Your referenced article on Web TV is just another great case in point in which their persistence and vision are showcased.
