Now that I'm thinking tips ... Ever notice how Win98 defaults to NOT using DMA? Most modern computers, those capable of running Win98, have the hardware capabilities to exploit DMA, but don't because of it is not enabled. To see if your machine supports DMA, and to enable it, right-click Your Computer (My Computer) and select the 'Device Manager' tab. Under 'Disk drives' click the little '+' sign to open the disk tree. Right-click your hard drive icon and select 'properties', then choose the 'Settings' tab. Once here, you can check the DMA box. After re-booting, follow the 'clickstream' and see if the box is still checked. If it is, your system supports DMA; if unchecked, DMA isn't supported. Cheers, PW. P.S. DMA is Direct Memory Access. Data can be copied between your disk subsystem and memory without taking a detour through your processor. P.S. The same process enables DMA for your ZIP drive too. P.P.S.
