I agree that China itself is not a threat, but with American nuclear technology, China could provide that technology to some not very reliable third world countries, such as Iran, Iraq, or who knows. That eventuality (and the huge amount of money the receiving countries would be willing to pay for the technology) is very worrisome. The lax security that allowed this to happen cannot be blamed solely on the current administration, since it now appears the problem went back at least to the early part of the Reagan administration and continued while Bush, a former head of the CIA, was in power. I have lived overseas for many years as a U.S. foreign service officer. All I can say is that Americans tend to take security for granted and therefore tend to be very gullible on these matters. And it doesn't help at all when people who have no experience whatsoever, but who have political connections, are appointed to high level positions that would be handled much better by seasoned experts.
