I think there may actually be something known as a hollow leader, which is a gadget affixed to a swivel which in turn is attached to a line and at the other end of the leader is a treble hook. Various kinds of creatures attach themselves to this treble hook--in my experience, particularly things called toadfish. These creatures have powerful jaws and are good for absolutely nothing, exuding a kind of nauseating slime and threatening human fingers with their vice-like grip.
