Until there is reform by the FASB, employee stock options will remain in vogue. Actually, I believe that use of the option format by companies is a big factor in why the wage component in inflation is so low, given the low unemployment number. Some companies grant options to all employees, and this form of compensation allows them to put a lid on annual increases in wages. They'll say that this year's increase will now only be on average 3% instead of 6%, but we'll grant you 300 options in lieu of a higher wage increase.

The government, especially this administration, certainly isn't going to apply pressure on any so-called scam if it plays into their rosy economic outlook that relies on low inflation/interest rates.
