Dan Clark is correct, CMGI is shortable again, after being not shortable for months. As you ask your pick is shortable, while HLTH, as a recent IPO and internut, not.

Correct. Buying power = 2x money there. So for 10K sent in you get 20K buying power if you set the account to margin (don't forget). Hence with 10K money there you "usually" can short stock in the worth of 20K:

your 10K sent in
+ 20K proceedings from the short sale
= 30K real cash
= 150% of the shorted stock's worth.

There are exemptions: low priced stocks demand the higher of 50% margin and $5 /shr maintenance margin (on short sales).
