First, something specifically regarding the K6-3: "I asked again one of the resellers of K6-III 500 (cyberpower) if they were sure they were no confusing the chip with the K6-2 500. Their answer was that AMD will release the K6-III 500 to OEMs next monday". Now, my gut instinct tells me that CyberPower looks like the most reliable of the resellers who have thus far advertised this phantom chip. The second dude said something slightly more vague, but interesting nonetheless: "the week of June 6 will most likely show the first shipments of a certian 500+ mhz cpu to vendors. Which line (k6-2 k6-3 k7) was not identified...". I have to back this up a bit -- I've heard other rumours of K7's being planned to ship beginning the first week of June. Still no idea of its veracity, and I'm pretty sure that anything that ships at that point would not be of higher clock bins. Dang. I have to wait two more weeks to find out! >:|
