Jon, Tim. As long as we're tossing out good reading suggestions for all the homies on the Q thread, I thought to second your Wired magazine recommendation. [how in the hell do you guys get italics and bold and stuff? I hit those little < and > thingies and all they do is print little < and > thingies] Anyway, Wired is pretty cool and hit just enough bulls-eyes in their gonzo tech journalism style to make it worthwhile. The Gates article and the demise of MSFT is one example. Another y'all might want to check out is Upside which was just voted numero uno tech mag in the SF Bay Area. Very good company culture profiles--they get you inside these joints and give you a very solid feel for management. Their profile of Rambus' CEO caused me to reach for the checkbook.
Last, I still think Red Herring should be on the list notwithstanding that they don't know satellites from Aunt Harriet's bowling balls AND despite their appalling ignorance of wireless data/telephony. They are very good on the software folks, though, and do a better than average job on the bandwidth boys. Biggest concern is that they tend to be a little West Coast-centric--they seem to have just recently discovered that Cisco isn't the only player in the networking game and then only because Lucent opened up so many offices in Silicon Valley that they kind of had to start covering them. Still waiting for Red Herring to find Tellabs but suspect that their MidWest HQ will keep TLAB invisible. Also for those of you who throw nickels around like manhole covers, the subscription is pretty cheap.
