There is only one flaw in your thesis, that there is some huge pent up Chines demand that GSM cannot satisfy. In Europe, GSM is doing just fine.

Over there, you have a high density population, with a large
disposable income to expend on fripperies like cell 'phones.
China has a large population, but who else besides the party apparatchiks can afford them?

In Europe, there isn't any pressure (yet) to migrate from GSM.
I think that CDMA IS-95 will always be a side play. The big bucks will be in 3g systems being developed now.
