Spelling as an exercise in civility. Now there's a thesis. I guess the gun totin' kids are just another in a long list of symptoms of the decline that Socrates and Aristotle started chalking down centuries ago.

I totally agree with you too, Anaxagoras.

Those unfortunate enough to be born without a spelling bump are not to be condemned for that. But they should expect to spend more time looking up things in the dictionary when they write for other readers, just as someone with cerebral palsy has to take more care when eating at the table with other diners, or just as the deaf have to work harder at communicating with people who have normal hearing, etc., etc.

It is basically anti-social not even to make the effort.

P.S. But I still think it bad form to correct people publicly -- unless they are posting to this thread, in which case, they are fair game, of course. <g>
