I'm afraid you've lost me. FWIW, and to use a bit of technical lingo, I think that communication is "gradable" with respect to success. IOW, when two people use language to communicate, where one person tries, as you say, to "get her thoughts across", it's often the case that she succeeds only to a degree. Sometimes there are cases of complete success or complete failure, but there are many degrees in between; it's not binary. But again, I don't see that this has anything to do with the simple point I was making about spelling and using a dictionary, and I'm rather puzzled by all the talk of guns. Anaxagoras
