What a wonderful story. I wish I had eloped. Our wedding was a drag. The fun part was honeymooning in Biloxi at my grandmother's house (we were really broke)(wedding too damn expensive, stupid, did it for my father's second wife, and they are divorced now). Grandmother fixed us up a bed in her enormous walk-in storage closet (entry way from the hall, not her bedroom, thank goodness). It was nice to have her approval for us sleeping in the same bed, made me really feel married. Memorial Day Weekend, 1980, almost 19 years in the Blue marriage, still going ok.

We had a string quartet and lots of boiled shrimp and a host of other delicacies at the wedding, but we didn't get to enjoy them, we had the fanciest wedding reception of anyone I know, but we spent the whole time talking to all the hundreds of people there, and my feet hurt horribly from the shoes.

Other than "elope", my advice is, "and if you don't elope, wear comfortable shoes."
