DARBES,

the K-7 is the first of a new, to AMD, generation of "short tick" processors; which are designed more fundamentally for higher ultimate frequencies and may benefit to a greater extent than earlier designs from extraordinary cooling measures.

The benefits of cooling are more a function of the physical design and process technology than the logic design. All that "short tick" means is that the designers minimized the number of gates between latches.

Given that K7 and the K6 family are manufactured in the same process, I expect that K7 will show similar percentage gains from cooling as K6-III. 800 Mhz should be coming soon.

Judging by AMD's recent $128.4 MILLION LOSS, Jerry Sanders and AMD has been the one that has been asleep.
