Hi, Christine. In high school I was in a special program the last two years. Jr. year I took 2 classes on campus. Sr. year, just one. Other than that I created my own classes. There was one that was *going places*.. museums, the tar-pits (I was in LA), govt. joints, and the like. I did a photography as we had a community center with a darkroom. There was literature (Shelley, Keats, etc. for poetry, the plays of Williams, O'Neill and others). I think the education was up to par and it spared the horrendous (for me) experience of mingling in classes where I really didn't belong. The high school I went to must have been unusual. People were friendly, and though there were cliques, there was no friction to speak of and people reached out to everyone.

But the unschooling thing is a reasonable option for a child that is motivated and interested in learning.
