Samsung, LG increase DVD shipments to Europe

KOREA — With demand expected to reach 500,000 players in Germany, England, Italy, Spain and France, industry sources say electronic manufacturers Samsung Group and LG Group plan to export some 100,000 DVD players each to Europe this year, in an effort to capture a 40-percent piece of the juicy European video market.

LG plans to have initially 50,000 players ready for export before for a test run. The company aims on exporting 100,000 players to Europe this year. With already strong markets in North America and close contacts in Europe, Samsung is also preparing for a significant output increase.

Europe currently has around 300 to 400 DVD disc titles in stores, but that number should increase to 1,000 before the year-end.
