Wi-LAN Announces Update on Business Development Activities

CALGARY, ALBERTA--

Wi-LAN Signs Two Non-Binding Preliminary Agreements with Two
'Fortune 500' Listed Companies

Wi-LAN Inc. (ASE:WIN), a technology leader in the rapidly growing
wireless Internet/data communications sector, today announced that
it has signed non-binding agreements focussed on joint product
development and licensing its patented W-OFDM technology with two
separate companies represented within the Fortune 500 listings.
Agreements are scheduled to be completed by the end of June, 1999.
Confidentiality agreements prevent Wi-LAN from releasing any
further details including the names of the companies involved.
Discussions with other companies are on-going at this time.

"Recent discussions about our patented W-OFDM technology convinced
us that we have the right technology to address the growing
high-speed networking market. As our growth continues, we will
evaluate options that make the most sense for Wi-LAN and its
shareholders," says Dr. Hatim Zaghloul, President and CEO of
Wi-LAN Inc.

Wi-LAN designs, builds and markets leading-edge technologies and
products to deliver high-speed wireless data
communications/Internet access to customers. Wi-LAN currently
owns two key patents; the first patent covers wide-band orthogonal
frequency division multiplexing (W-OFDM) which is the technology
adopted by the IEEE for the IEEE802.11a draft standard. The 30
Megabits per second W-OFDM product, is scheduled to be launched in
June. The second patent is on multi-code direct sequence spread
spectrum, which should prove its value in third generation
cellular telephones.

Wi-LAN is already supplying its patented product to national
networks for high-speed wireless Internet access. Wi-LAN's
customers include telephone companies such as the national Swedish
Telephone Company, Telia, and RSL Com Canada, a fully owned
subsidiary of RSL Communications (NASDAQ:RSLCF), large national
Internet and intranet service providers such as Tele2(UK), a
subsidiary of Millicom International (NASDAQ: MICCF), cable
companies and regional school districts. Wi-LAN is currently
proposing systems for various public high-speed wireless data
networks worldwide.

Dr. Zaghloul - I echo the thoughts of others tonight. Great work!

On a serious note, why would you not move the company to the TSE? I had dinner Saturday night with a mutual fund manager (responsible for close to $800 million in Canadian assets) he has never heard of the company and claims to avoid the ASE like the plague.

One small company I'm involved with GBV has gone from $0.94 to over $1.60 since indicating it would move from the ASE to the TSE.

Regards - and thank you for your continued time!

Whitey,
