Re: Load Balancing CTXS vs. MSFT Lucius, Speaking of Load Balancing, below are a few clips concerning that issue. MSFT has updated their previously flawed Windows Load Balancing feature and given it a powerful new name, "Network Load Balancing."<G>. But it certainly doesn't mean it works nearly as well as the Citrix MetaFrame Load Balancing feature. As I recall, the reviews of Win NT4.0 Terminal Server Edition got seriously bad marks in load balancing. Sure is a funny relationship MSFT has with CTXS. Strange how CTXS has helped MSFT with Windows 2000 Terminal Services. A very unusual relationship. I think the DOJ would respond (if necessary) in a heartbeat if there ever was a major dispute between MSFT and CTXS. IMHO, it's a very similar situation to the built-in, no charge, feature to hurt competitors. But's it's simply my opinion. Hopefully it won't even come close to being an issue. Hopefully there is some 90% plus(as in NT 4.0 TSE), customers who opt to deploy MetaFrame when purchasing Windows 2000 Terminal Services. I mean Citrix's livlihood depends upon Thin Client technology. Microsoft views it as a necessary evil. Can any Citrix Solution Providers explain how important, "application publishing or management services (such as disconnect support)," is for customers. Thanks, MikeM(From Florida) **************************** Q: What are the new features in Windows 2000 Terminal Services over Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition? A: ...Terminal Services has also been integrated with the Network Load Balancing (formerly Windows Load Balancing) service in Windows 2000, offering customers additional built-in scalability when setting up farms of Terminal Servers. --------- Q: How do these new features compare and contrast with those currently being offered by other companies such as Citrix Systems Inc. or Network Computing Devices NCD? A: Some of the new features in the RDP protocol in Windows 2000 are similar in function to offerings from other companies....Some of the other new features, such as Network Load Balancing, function differently in Windows 2000 Server than they do in third-party products, such as the Load Balancing functionality in Citrix MetaFrame....Network Load Balancing in Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services offers the basic ability to load-balance the servers, but it does not offer the application publishing or management services (such as disconnect support) found in the other third-party products.
