To All, Wrestler Owen Hart was killed last night in a fall from the ceiling of The Kemper Arena in Kansas City. Lots of thoughts, kind of rambling: 1. Owen was from the famous Canadian family that produces wrestlers the way Iowa produces corn. IMHO, Owen had the best wrestling skills in the family, even more so than more famous older brother, Bret The Hit Man. But he never got that push to become a star. WCW preferred to "job" him out and the WWF used him mainly in tag matches. When you see Blue Meanie wrestling The Hardy Boys, you have to wonder why a talent like Owen was relegated to prelim status. 2. I have never liked "elevated" stunts, whether they were entrances from the ceiling, scaffold matches, suspended cage matches or whatever. It always seemed like too much risk for something that was not in great view for the fans. 3. I don't know what caused Owen to hit so hard. But the accident was in Kansas City. I was visiting KC (after moving to St. Paul) when the second floor balcony on what was then the new Hyatt collapsed and killed a lot of people. Maybe somebody in town has to start thinking about safety a bit. 4. Owen was 33 years old. He leaves a wife and two young kids. Sad stuff. 5. Owen's brother, Bret, had a specatacular exit from the WWF when he thought that mgt. screwed him over. He punched out owner Vince McMahon in what was not a work. I don't know the hows and whys that convinced Owen to stay in the WWF after that confrontation between his boss and his brother.
