Colin,

Congratulations on your beautiful spreadsheet ;), I have been struggling with a similar creation for tracking my MB Trading & other accounts for some time. I've recently gone back to studying Excel and exploring some of it's basic capabilities, to rethink my model. I've come across the following and am wondering what you think of this approach to data capture and aggregation.

I've discovered that a single Excel workbook can easily hold at least a thousand "worksheets" (spreadsheet pages on tabs, in this case each one representing a day's trading activity). And of course it's easy to link data between the worksheets to "roll things up". So what I'm doing is copying the Excel-compatible trade record file that RealTick III automatically writes to my disk every day, into a worksheet page (accessible as a dated tab from the main page) for that day. The front page is the analysis page, generating updates to my equity tracking curve, margin numbers, etc.

This approach saves a lot of the data entry, and I automatically check out MBT's records against my manual trade entry-exit records. There is still some manual work involved, to separate the daytrades from the position trades, add data from other accounts (not as much data) but I'm developing Macros for that.

Would sure enjoy studying a copy of your spreadsheet if you're so inclined to email a template! Sounds like a nice piece of work and as you know something like this is quite essential as a complement to RT III.

Colin:

Any suggestions for improvements appreciated!

Well, I'd have to have a complementary copy to evaluate before I'd share any of my valuable suggestions. <gg>

I just stopped in for a moment between sessions with the kids.. I'll have to study your post when I have more time. Certainly sounds complete! Thanks for taking the time to share.
