I must say I am very skeptical of the various search engines since I discovered that Alta Vista specifically omits certain web sites. Amazon.com is a big advertiser on Alta Vista. Try searching for a book title and you will get no hits on any of the other internet book vendors. Some small used bookstores get through, but most of these seem to refer you to Amazon if you want a new copy.

Anyone have any idea if all the search engines are now engaged in this devious practice? Or is it just Alta Vista?

Incidentally if you want to buy a book, I recommend bookfinders.com which will find all new and used prices on the web, and especially when buying used books, will save you a substantial amount over buying from Amazon.
