john...."gerstner talk" true earnings way above analysts expectations, but who set the level of expectations to prepare the upward surprise...gerstner has been talking since the beginning of the year..."the pc is dead comment"...and the resultant earnings surprise were a beautiful execution, showing the market that ibm, unlike dell does not have the perceived albatross of the pc weighing them down....gerstner brought attention back to what ibm really is...and if dell beats ibm at the pc game, gerstner and ibm and the equity markets don't care...as reflected in stock price.....sort of like breaking out of the pack, ibm started its kick, hwp trying to match, dell pacing itself, cpq not sure what direction the finish line...it's the perception of direction and speed to the millennium and the tasty net that is moving the issues, at least for today!
