R&D question

I've considered owning MASK in the past but always decided against it due to their lack of R&D spending relative to PLAB and DPMI. Last quarter mask spent roughly 2% of revs ($250,000) on R&D vs. plab and dpmi at roughly 5-6% (4-5 million). Are some of mask's r&d costs being effectively hidden by accounting and if not how can they have any hope of keeping up with plab and dpmi?
