Good point, flick. Sound cards got "PC-integrated," but analog TV didn't.

Still, I wonder how low the digital tuner could go if it were integrated onto the motherboard? Not that power users would want it that way, but the Gateway "Dimension" (was that the name of the PC/TV product?) customer wouldn't care.

Actually, my Courier 28.8/33.6 modem did cost about $250 3-1/2 years ago. Glad I paid up for it, though, 'cause it was upgradable to 56K and V.90 at no cost. Still, I'm ready for another one anyway, as they keep EC-ing these things and now use a much faster DSP. (Broadband cable and xDSL not even rumored in NYC.)

Then there's the "free PC" gimmick. How about a "free digital TV/PC?" Just agree to use the sponsor's ISP at $24.95 a month, watch all the ads, fill out a survey a week and agree to buy the next 4 Mike Tyson fights at $99.95 each. Guaranteed to be an "ear-biter" of a deal!
