Exabyte Announces Technology Partnerships in Support of NetstorM SAN Initiative

Exabyte is Proliferating Wide-ranging Support for its NetStorM Program Through Key Vendor Partnerships
BOULDER, Colo., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Exabyte Corp. (Nasdaq: EXBT), a leading network backup systems company, today announced strategic partnerships for its NetStorM(TM) (Network Storage Management) storage area network (SAN) program. NetStorM is Exabyte's SAN backup solution that integrates the company's SAN-ready Arrowhead(TM) tape libraries designed for DLTtape(TM), 8mm and LTO technologies, its FC12 Fibre Channel-to-SCSI managed router, third-party Fibre Channel Networking hardware, Exabyte's NetStorM management software, ISV SAN backup applications and Exabyte training and support.
"Exabyte is actively working with NetStorM partners to certify the interoperability of Fibre Channel hubs, switches and host-bus adapters, Exabyte hardware and ISV applications," said Mike Koclanes, vice president and general manager of the storage automation division of Exabyte. "By creating strategic partnerships highlighting a number of companies that specialize in various storage products, Exabyte aims to develop an umbrella of certified products and services that will give resellers a distinct advantage in selling, implementing and supporting SAN architectures."
Several companies have immediately announced support of the newly minted Exabyte NetStorM program. Vendors supporting NetStorM currently include: BROCADE, Computer Associates (CA), Emulex, Gadzoox, QLogic and Vixel.
"NetStorM is an excellent example of how companies in the Fibre Channel industry are working together to bring interoperability to resellers and end users," says Stan Reese, vice president of product development at the Vixel Corporation. "By certifying our interconnect product portfolio with companies such as Exabyte, we can deliver compatible, high quality and affordable solutions to our mutual customers."
"As a leading provider of SAN data delivery products, QLogic is committed to interoperability and performance in the SAN environment," said Rick Franz, director of corporate marketing for QLogic Corporation. "Exabyte NetStorM represents the type of SAN application that will drive the rapid adoption of Fibre Channel, and we are pleased to partner with Exabyte to deliver fully tested and interoperable SAN solutions."
"Emulex is pleased to work with Exabyte to support their NetStorM program," said Mike Kane, marketing director for Emulex. " The NetStorM program allows end users to confidently deploy Fibre Channel-based SAN back-up systems, and it fits very well with the high-availability features of the Emulex products," he added.
"Gadzoox Networks, as the leader in SAN products, is dedicated to the continued growth of proven tested solutions for our customers," said Dave Tang, vice president of marketing at Gadzoox. "The NetStorM program from Exabyte is a great step forward in defining, testing and marketing SAN solutions. Exabyte and Gadzoox will work together to deliver SAN solutions to more customers to satisfy their storage needs in new and innovative ways."
"The combination of CA's ARCserveIT and NetStorM lets customers deploying SANs leverage the synergies of the industry's leading backup solution and Exabyte's advanced hardware," said Brian Shemilt, CA's vice president of development partner programs. "CA is pleased to be working closely with Exabyte on integrating storage management into its NetStorM SAN solution to bring a complete backup strategy to Fibre Channel environments."
"BROCADE supports initiatives such as Exabyte's NetStorM, which facilitates interoperability among SAN solutions and reduces the time to SAN deployment," said Peter Tarrant, vice president of marketing and business development for BROCADE. "As a leading supplier of Fibre Channel fabric switches, BROCADE is pleased to work with Exabyte to ensure product compatibility for our mutual customers."
"Resolution of interoperability issues between SAN components is crucial to the rapid acceptance of SAN solutions, says Robert Abraham, vice president of Freeman Associates of Santa Barbara. "Exabyte's leadership role in resolving those issues is commendable. This is a classic 'win-win' situation for the storage industry and the user."
