From the K7 preview article:

"A little while ago, we were invited by sources close to AMD to spend a couple of hours with a system equipped with a preproduction CPU and motherboard. We were given an opportunity to install and run benchmarks on specified hardware and settings, with the understanding that none of the hardware exists in final form."

"You'll forgive yet another reminder that the scores taken here are not guaranteed to be representative of the final performance of the K7 processor, for a number of reasons. What they do show however, is that there is always a truth behind the hype. While there may be many circumstances affecting the performance and benchmark results of the K7, there is still much room for improvement before the processor is released, including further firmware optimization on the BIOS and motherboard."

No one know how old the system is/was.

For the record, I don't believe ANY ONE benchmark there.

dumbmoney,

It is pointless to speculate on any unofficial benchmarking that has been done on the K7. Were all three FPU units functional and turned on? Was FPU pipelining turned on? Was the code optimized for K7?

These are the kinds of questions which no one, including the benchmarkers have the answer to. They also can make an order of magnitude difference in performance. We are used to instant gratification on the Internet, but were not going to get it today.

RE:"K7 Winbench 99 FPU Mark"...
Doesn't look like Intel needs to be worried about the K7 at all. <G>
Intel should go straight up from here. <G>

Hmmmmm....Hmmmmmm...... !

50 MHz Faster, 1000 FPU Winmarks SLOWER !

That K7 sure is designed for MHz !

Too bad its not designed for processing speed !
