Intergraph Computer Systems Selects Mercury Computer Systems' SANergy for Shared Storage Area Networks

CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 1999--
Software Distribution Agreement Boosts SANergy Penetration of Digital Media and Enterprise Computing Markets
Mercury Computer Systems (NASDAQ:MRCY) announced today that its Shared Storage Business Unit has signed a software distribution agreement with Intergraph Computer Systems to supply Intergraph with SANergy(TM), the premiere software for enabling heterogeneous distributed file sharing on storage area networks (SANs). Intergraph is a leading supplier of Intel(R)/Windows NT(R)-based workstations and servers for the creative and technical desktop in markets such as digital media, animation, content creation, publishing and prepress, visual simulation, graphics arts, and MCAD.
"By extending storage area networks to support true data sharing, SANergy is rapidly changing the rules in today's information-centric environment," said Barry Burke, vice president and general manager of Mercury's Shared Storage Business Unit. "Furthermore, the extremely high-data throughput rates that SANergy enables is changing the way companies think about the performance, scalability, and operational cost aspects of their data centers. This relationship puts Intergraph's customers at the forefront of this revolution."
"Intergraph's agreement with Mercury Computer Systems reaffirms our commitment to providing creative and technical professionals with powerful and well-balanced systems, network and disk components, and software," said Jeff Edson, president of Visual Computing at Intergraph Computer Systems. "SANergy software combined with Intergraph's leading-edge hardware balances and enhances system performance across a SAN and gives our customers more value for their investment."
"Intergraph Computer Systems is the first major systems company to offer an integrated data-sharing solution to its customers based on SANergy. This is indicative of a major trend that will emerge as SANs begin to proliferate enterprise storage applications," said Michael Peterson, president of Strategic Research Corporation and a prominent industry analyst in the storage industry. "Intergraph is a visionary in this emerging market and their selection of SANergy underscores Mercury's leadership in shared storage."
SANergy provides true file-based data sharing across a SAN for a wide range of I/O-intensive applications. By transparently managing concurrent access to SAN-based storage without the need for an intermediary file server, SANergy enables high-speed file sharing at data rates unmatched by even the fastest LAN-based alternatives. Shipping since November of 1998, the latest release of SANergy supports full file-level and byte-range locking across heterogeneous networks of Windows NT(R), Sun Solaris(TM), SGI IRIX(R), and Mac(R)OS-based systems. As an extension to industry-standard file systems and networking protocols, Mercury's SANergy supports virtually any network-aware application without the need for costly programming or systems administration changes.
"The SANergy combination of cutting edge technology and mega high-performance systems jacked our production pipeline through the roof! Our work flowed with none of those tired data-jams that you get with Ethernet file servers," said Intergraph Computer System's customer Tim Miller, president with Blur Studio.
Under the terms of this non-exclusive agreement, Intergraph will sell and support SANergy through its direct and indirect sales channels. Customers will be able to purchase SANergy independently or as a component of storage and/or systems solutions offered by Intergraph worldwide. SANergy will also be available through other distributors and sales channels.
