For use in cell phones, the scanner has to be small and light. Silicon chips have been envisioned as owning this market, but the new IDT scanner is probably small and light enough to be used, even though it is optically-based. There is no evidence so far that the Digital Persona product is small enough (let alone cheap enough) to be used in this market.
