Your experience seems anomalous. I recently (earlier this month) had called DELL support regarding upgrading my modem to V.90. The support person suggested a series of steps involving "flashing" the modem with the V.90 software, but that failed. They promptly sent a new V.90 modem which arrived less than 24 hours later. They have also been extremely helpful in the past.
