Gee I've hit a nerve...

More precisely, what you've done is show up here, say negative things about the company without any information to back it up, and claim that "major competition" is on the way simply because compression algorithms are commonly-known processing techniques.

Mention the myriad ways that physicists have of encoding sound into compressed states...

Well, gosh, let's see. The process of etching silicon wafers is well understood and has been around a few decades, so I guess that means that Intel is about to fall due to "major" competition, huh? And I guess that the theory behind the workings of operating systems are understood enough to be taught to college students, so I guess that Microsoft is about to come tumbling down because "major" O/S competition is possible, right?

...mention lousy sound quality on a 350mhz Pentium on Ethernet with NT Service Pack 5 - is that the nerve?

EXCEPT THAT YOU DIDN'T "MENTION" THAT. You said nothing about your system, connection, OS, et. al. You simply posted a message that said RNWK's sound quality was "crappy" without any info to back up your post.

Still surprised that you're getting flamed by people?
